What is Oxfam?
Oxfam Australia is an Australian, independent, not-for-profit, secular, community-based aid and development organisation. Oxfam's work includes long-term development projects, responding to emergencies and campaigning for a more just world. Oxfam Australia's vision is of a fair world in which people control their own lives, their basic rights are achieved and the environment is sustained.
Oxfam aim to increase the number of people who have a sustainable livelihood, access to social services, an effective voice in decisions, safety from conflict and disaster, and equal rights and status.
What volunteering at Oxfam means...
Volunteering is a great way to be a part of Oxfam Australia's work. Oxfam relies on the valuable support of more than 1,200 volunteers throughout Australia who help us to change the lives of people living with poverty and injustice around the world.
By becoming a volunteer you have an opportunity to help make a difference. Whether it's with events, communications, campaigns, administration, fundraising or program support, OXfam has opportunities for volunteers with a whole range of different skills, knowledge and experience. Oxfam volunteers comprise people of all ages, cultural backgrounds and professions. You just need to be 18 years or older to be eligible. Whatever time you can give will be appreciated, whether it's one hour per week or one day.
